The harness round log

Every recording under evals/recursion_depth/results/, what it measured, why it stopped, and the engine wiring it ran under. This is the instrument's output. The procedure that produces a row is the harness-experiment skill; what a row has to prove is the wiring check.

The log lives here rather than only in each recording's own README because a recording's place in the sequence is the whole value of keeping it, and the directory listing does not say which recording answered which question or what it was measured under.

The wiring column

Every recording below ran the harness's own hand-built engine, which passed 8 of the 51 collaborators the product's boot path passes: no compaction, no review pipeline, no approval gate, no policy engine, no budget enforcer, no memory. Nothing could tell, because omitting a keyword argument looked exactly like deciding against it. The corpus therefore measured an engine the product does not ship, and the root-cause analysis built on it withdrew its own verdict.

The harness now calls the product's own assembly, an engine is not constructible with a collaborator missing, and a recording states its own wiring in its report. A row written from here on names what the wiring report verified rather than a count of arguments.

What the corpus could and could not say

Every number above was measured honestly and none of them measures the product. Three of the six root causes name a mechanism the harness had not wired rather than one the product lacks: nothing managed context because the harness passed no compaction callback, no review pipeline ran per unit because the harness passed none, and the budget signal that was measured firing was the task's own token ceiling standing in for an enforcer that was not there. Which of the six survive is what the next recording exists to answer, and it is the first that can.

Two corrections to the dossier were established while closing the gap, and are recorded in its own README: the stagnation detector was never a parity gap, because the product's default was also off, which is why the default has changed rather than the harness; and eleven of the fields the dossier counted as missing were not passed by the boot path either, so the real gap was forty-three collaborators, and after the assembly change it is zero.

How to add a row

A round's row is written when the round stops, and it is written whether or not the sweep reached its deep end. Name the recording's directory, state the treatment as the flag that set it, quote what the wiring report verified (<out-dir>/smoke/wiring.json: a finding is passed, failed or unverified, and an unverified one is named as such), say how far the curve got and open the stop reason with the mechanism rather than the symptom.

The round's own success metric is whether the stop point moved, not how many findings it produced. A recording that stops on the harness has measured the harness; the row says so, and the next round's question is whether the same stop recurs.
